Karate club members return with medals

Tūrangi Karate Club members Lisa Bell, daughter Emily Bell and Kataraina Mareikura-Fremlin, have returned from the TSKF/ISKF Australian Championships with medals.

Held in Perth, at the University of Western Australia, the four-day event (March 10-13) included three intense days of training, culminating in tough competition for the 120 competitors.

The competitors came from all over Australia, Japan and New Zealand. 

Junior member Kataraina Mareikura-Fremlin placed 2nd in Kata for the Junior 1st-3rd Kyu Over 150cm Kata division.

Lisa Bell placed 3rd in both Kata and Kumite for the Womens 1st–3rd Kyu division. 

A highlight of the event was the attendance of New Zealand and Australian chief instructor Takahashi Shunsuke Shihan and three Sensei’s; Hirata, Nemoto and Tobita, who travelled from Japan to conduct the event.

It was an experience the Tūrangi Karate Club members say they benefitted from immensely.
