One road opens and another closes

No sooner has one road opened, than another one closes.

That’s the case south of Tūrangi this weekend with the SH1 upgrade to Waiouru due to open at Friday, 1pm.

Urgent works on the Tangiwai Rail Crossing means that bridge will close on two weekends this month.

Kiwirail postponed the works by a week until SH1 opened, because the Tangiwai Bridge on SH49 formed part of the alternative route.

To enable KiwiRail to undertake the work safely, SH49 will be down to one lane under stop/go traffic management at the Tangiwai Crossing this weekend, March 15-16 and again on March 22-23 (weather dependent).
