Strong prospects for Taupō tri-sport

Tri-Sport Taupō Junior Development Team has had a summer of success, capped off with outstanding results at the recent Secondary School Triathlon Nationals.

The Tri-Sport Taupō Junior Development Team with Coach Cameron Paul.

Twelve juniors, from Taupō-nui-a-Tia and Tauhara Colleges, and Taupō Intermediate, made the trip to Glendhu Bay in Wanaka to take on triathletes from all over the country.

All 12 came home with at least one medal - some with as many as four.

The phenomenal individual successes also saw Taupō-nui-a-Tia College students bring home the Co-Ed Schools Trophy - awarded for gaining the highest number of points.

The Juniors team has grown this year to more than 20 members, ranging from 10 - 19 years old.

They train and race under the expert guidance of coach Cameron Paul.

Training involves weekly group sessions, including early morning swim squads, cycling at the velodrome, and various run trainings.

Youth development training sessions are funded by Alterno Foundation and Ironman Global.
