Sunday Groove features Hot Tub at Lava Glass

Lava Glass Sculpture garden is the ideal place for a Sunday Groove.

Lava Glass owner Christine Robb is looking forward to having her favourite local band play in the Lava Glass Sculpture Garden – not that she’s at all biased.

Sunday Groove with Hot Tub on Sunday, March 2 is billed as a relaxing afternoon of cool music in a garden of national significance.

The soul funk band will be steering its set toward the more relaxed end of their repertoire, said front man Donovan Bixley, to complement Lynden Over’s distinctive sculptures.

“Though the odd funky number might get thrown in just to make sure people are awake – there is a pond in the garden you know, and we wouldn’t want anyone falling asleep and rolling in.”

The garden’s mini amphitheatre has been used successfully in the past for a bands or events, such as weddings and presentations, Robb said, including a Hot Tub performance in 2014 after it was opened by then Prime Minister John Key.

“Every now and then, one of our customers will even book it for a mini-concert so their own family can perform to each other. It’s good to see it being used.”

The Sunday Groove idea came from chatting with Bixley, a longtime friend, about staging a chill out afternoon of music the day after Ironman New Zealand 2025, in the intimate setting of the amphitheatre.

“Not that either of us are competing,” she laughed.

“But we’d love to see people come along with a bring-your-own picnic, or the licensed café is open, and enjoy it.”

Bookings for the 2-4pm Sunday Groove concert at Lava Glass on State Highway 5 at Wairakei can be made on Trybooking, via the Lava Glass website, and with door sales also available on the day.

Kim Manunui

Hi, I’m Kim and I work with a great team to help individuals, as well as small and not so small businesses get their message, product and services to the world using digital media and creating wonderful websites that don’t cost the earth.

I was born in Canada, and grew up around Vancouver and the mountains of British Columbia. My love of pristine environments led me to New Zealand and eventually to the mountains, lakes and rivers of the central North Island which is home. My family’s heritage is here, and it’s from here that Korio traverses the planet.

The digital world is never static and neither are we.

And I say ‘we’ because I work with an awesome group of talented people who I gather together as required to complete a project.  Whatever your business, not-for-profit or individual needs are we gather the best team to get the job done.

Collaboratively we are creative, share sustainable values and work hard for great outcomes because that’s the buzz of satisfaction that drives us.

If you have an audience and market to reach, we can make that happen. Creative design, words that work and smart behind the scenes stuff that cuts through the online noise. We’ll design your website and then build it. We’ll manage the content as well as all your hosting needs. We can handle your online advertising so you get noticed,
and we’ll manage your social media presence so you get the clicks, likes and engagement to grow your business. All within the budget you set, because none of this needs to cost the earth.  And the job doesn’t stop when your website goes live. We are your virtual business partner.
