Triumph of strength through adversity

Taupō man Tony Treloar completed an impressive feat of endurance on Sunday, paddling 6km in a waka ama over two hours.

While the paddle on Lake Taupō would challenge most people, Tony is living with motor neurone disease, so has significant challenges with co-ordination, strength and stamina.

His reason for doing it?

“Because the lake is still here and so am I.”

He also raised more than $13,000 for the Neurological Foundation and people can still make a contribution at  https://discover.neurological.org.nz/fundraisers/Tony.

It is the second time Tony has done his own personal challenge. Tony tipped out last year, giving himself and all present a bit of a fright.

This year, despite tricky conditions he kept upright and completed about 6km in the two hours
